Historic House Plaque Information

Wondering about those snazzy historic metal plaques, with the year the home was built, on quite a few of our neighbors’ houses?

You, too, can get one — from the West Palm Beach Historic Preservation Board's historic-designation plaque program.

Just order, pay and wait! The city’s order form requests the following information:

  • property owner’s name
  • address
  • telephone number
  • historic district
  • structure address for plaque
  • date structure was built (if known)
  • number of plaques requested
  • your signature

For an emailed PDF of the official form, send a request to vmp735 [at] mac.com with “plaque” in the subject line. You can print it, fill it out and mail it to the city.

Plaques cost $145 each, payable to the City of West Palm Beach. Return the form and your check to City Hall, 401 Clematis Street, P.O. Box 3366, Planning Department, West Palm Beach, FL 33402.

In order to keep costs down, the city will not order plaques until several requests have accumulated. It takes from six to eight weeks to receive the plaques once they have been ordered. The city will notify you by phone when the plaque arrives.

For more information, contact the city’s Historic Preservation Division at (561) 822-1435.

Flamingo Park Invites Community to Experience a Holiday Stroll Through Beautifully Appointed Houses at 24th Historic Home Tour

Evening event to feature festive décor, live entertainment, exquisite refreshments, and nine never-before-seen homes.

2016 Home Tour Image

Illuminated by the warm glow of candlelight and colorful cheer of holiday lights, more than 10 architecturally significant homes will be open for visitors to explore when the Flamingo Park neighborhood of West Palm Beach, Florida hosts its 24th Holiday Historic Home Tour on Sunday, December 4, 2016, from 5 to 9 p.m.

Located just a few blocks south of Cityplace and downtown West Palm Beach, the Flamingo Park historic district is noted for its many fully-restored historic houses, mostly built in the 1920s through 1940s in architectural styles ranging from Spanish Mission and Mediterranean Revival to American Foursquare and Frame Vernacular. The annual holiday-themed tour is hosted by the non-profit Flamingo Park Neighborhood Association and is widely regarded as one of the finest home tours in the region.

Veteran tour patrons will enjoy an almost entirely new experience this year, as nine of the 12 homes currently slated to participate in the 2016 event have never before opened their doors to previous tours. While most of the homes on the tour will be new, the event’s most popular aspects will return, including festive holiday décor, complimentary drinks and light hors d’ oeuvres for all patrons, live music, and free shuttle service.

Tickets are available for $60 on the evening of the tour at the check-in tent. The check-in tent, located at 2420 Florida Ave., will open at 4:30 p.m. and all homes will be open from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A reception will follow from 8 to 9 p.m. in the Hospitality Tent, featuring live music, gourmet coffees and cookies.

Since this event serves alcohol, guests age 21 and up will be issued a wristband.

Event sponsors include the Norton Museum of Art, as well as Sushi Jo, Don Ramon's Restaurant, Tulipan Bakery, Dontee's Restaurant, Very Important Paws, Serenity Garden Tea House & Restautant, and Souvlaki Grill.

For complete information and frequent tour updates, including photos and weekly sneak peeks of the homes on the tour, visit the Flamingo Park Facebook page, facebook.com/FlamingoParkNeighborhood.
